Making connections. One way I inspire students to make connections is via their personal interests combined with a love of literature. Several students have expressed an interest in the sciences and baking and the books I have selected reflect these tangents.
Books are key "ingredients" for success. Some I have selected reflect an interest in nature and the sciences mentioned by my students. Other books reflect an interest in baking/cooking. Once a month via Google Meet, I bake online with my "chefs". The home connection is strengthened as parents and siblings are also in the kitchen and highlight the potential for careers as chefs and/or bakers. I am also hoping to create a classroom recipe cookbook that showcases the traditional recipes passed down from generation to generation. Chefs hats were also added to the "wish list" to add even more excitement and creativity to our hands-on projects whether baking in our kitchens and/or writing an essay with all the right "ingredients".
Other items chosen are shelves/bookcase to display the books and comfortable seating. And some reflect misc. school supplies needed to help a classroom hum.
