We are a school in a large urban school district that just this year became a Title 1 building, meaning that a large portion or our student population is on free or reduced fees. While additional funds have been requested to help provide students with a "realistic" experience, the monies are just not available for courses that are not considered to be a core class. Our students love the Medical Detectives course and we are the only middle school to offer it in our district. Due to the cost of the class it is only offered once a year to 8th grade students. Students have requested that it be offered both semesters, but for now, that is now financially impossible. Our students enjoy classes that offer hands on experiences that tie to potential career options for them.
Students learn to work as part of team and together they develop higher level thinking skills as well as learn how to take detail notes pertaining to the various labs that will help them solve the crime.
