Most of the students at my school are from Cuba and Puerto Rico as well as many other Hispanic countries. Many of them have recently immigrated to the United States and their parents are working hard to support them. Many of our students begin school only speaking Spanish. Within a few months they are speaking English and learning at an amazing rate. They amaze me every day! They work hard to learn and understand a second language while learning to read and write. They help their parents at home with their younger siblings and household responsibilities. They overcome daily obstacles many others can only imagine. Their families are so supportive of their learning and they value their children's education.
