My students attend a public suburban high school in the D.C. metropolitan area with 2,200 students. It is a diverse school with students from every racial and ethnic background and a range of socio-economic statuses. The economic downturn has hit my school's community hard; foreclosures are common, and many of my students rely on free and reduced meals for their nourishment twice a day.
