My students are wonderful! I tend to get students that struggle in the classroom but excel at hands-on tasks. They don't always get the encouragement at home or the satisfaction of being successful at school. By offering real world experience, I am able to teach them business skills on a level that they can immediately use & understand.
Our school is very low SES, with over 70% on free/reduced lunch. I believe they all have the ability to contribute in a meaningful way to the business world. The pride they feel when someone is wearing one of "their" shirts makes me burst with pride for them.
My students feel a sense of responsibility in working with customers. After the first few weeks, it's a great joy to see each student find their "niche" in the process. They become the expert or go-to person...a feeling they've seldom, if ever, get.
