I have 23 first grade students, 6-8 year olds. This class is diverse and rich in experiences and cultures. I have students from America, Vietnam, Mexico, and Guatemala. They love exploring the community and world they live in! The school is a community school, tucked back into a nice neighborhood. It used to be one of the best schools in the district. However, as the neighborhood grew older, and government assisted housing came in, we have seen a population shift. We sit at the cusp of eligibility for federal funding, however we do not qualify for any. This presents a challenge in that we do not receive government funds, yet we do not have an affluent population.
