My 6th grade language arts students amaze me daily with their inquiring minds. They are constantly asking questions and trying to better understand the world they live in. With this in mind, we hope to start a new unit of study where we will analyze how we can explain our world. We will begin by reading and analyzing the pourquoi tales many cultures developed long ago to explain the natural world. The diverse origins of the stories we hope to study are similar to the diverse heritages of my students. Later, we will look at scientific explanations. I hope that through these learning experiences, my students will not have their curiosity sated. Rather I hope that they will be more excited and motivated than ever to learn about the world they live in.
