The students in my class are very eager to learn! They are hard workers, generous and kind to each other, and strive for reading success. Unfortunately, over 50% are from low income families who qualify for free/reduced meals. Many parents do not have the resources to expose their children to the types of experiences that will increase their vocabulary and knowledge of the world around them. As we plan a curriculum based on Common Core State Standards and aim to teach reading through the content areas, my goal is to increase their exposure to text.
