Students at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, GA are surrounded by almost a century (93 years) of U.S. and civil rights history. Matriculating at this iconic school gives students an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of prominent leaders that have shaped our community and our nation.
Our school houses memorabilia depicting famous alumni such as Dr. M.L. King, Jr., Lena Horne, and Former Secretary of State Louis Sullivan, but they cannot be displayed in their present states. Our historical documents are decaying to the point that they crumble upon being picked up. This problem persists at a time when the GA Department of Education budgets are severely pinched. The economics of today's K-12 public education culture emphasizes doing more with less. No area of a district's building level budget is off limits from the economic pinch. In-house resources are valuable assets in these times.
