In our Title 1 school, teachers are provided with basic traditional tables or desks and plastic chairs for students to use each day. It can get very boring and uncomfortable sitting in the same spot or seat so often. Having other options such as an inviting carpet area that matches our forest classroom theme, bean bag chairs, cushion seats, a mini sofa and wobble stools can help children feel more comfortable and give them options for places to learn in ways they feel at home or learn best. A binder station can help keep their daily folders in an organized area in where they don't have to worry about keeping track of them. We, as teachers, are not given funds to create this kind of environment which research has proven helps kids better learn. Providing choice and flexible seating and a classroom that is inviting, warm, and encouraging will stimulate learning and help my students be successful. Learning should be fun and exciting and creating a classroom that is fun is my goal for my students! These items will help greatly with that goal.
