My school serves about eleven housing projects. Which means that over 90% of our students come from low-income or impoverished backgrounds. Many of my students face challenging circumstances in their homes. Some come to school late often because they were babysitting the younger siblings until an adult could arrive to bring them to school. A lot of students need school supplies constantly because they simply do not have the resources to purchase these items for the classroom. Teachers here at our school work together rigorously to provide clothing, supplies, and special rewards for our students because we are sometimes the only ones they interact with who care. Yes, we have some students with challenging attitudes, but for the most part, many students are grateful for supplies that we share with them. My goal is to always share with them. I want them to know that there are those who do care about them, and who want to give back to them, so they can one day be an inspiration themselves.
