My students live in Philadelphia in a low-socioeconomic area. There is a high rate of crime in this neighborhood and little support from parents. My 6 and 7 year old students come in hungry and tired. They often deal with a lot of stress and trauma at home. I try to make school a warm, welcoming place for these students to spend their day. They struggle in all academic areas and often get frustrated and sometimes feel like giving. I want to make school fun for them so they can learn and grow.
