My students are amazing! They are students who are not particularly interested in visual art, choir or band, and who love to do things that are "hands on". Many of my students do not necessarily do well in pure academic settings even though we use many academic skills in real world, problem solving situations. My goal is to demonstrate that core academics come alive by applying these skills in authentic learning contexts. My entire school has been granted free lunch services through the state. We are considered economically needy, but we make up for this deficit in our creativity and in our perseverance. Our middle school is an International Baccalaureate designated school and we work very hard to stay true to the characteristics that are typical of an IB student: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, courageous, balanced, and reflective.
