My class is in a Title 1 school. Our students come from a rough area of Anchorage with very low socioeconomic backgrounds and many have chaotic home lives. We serve students living in battered woman's shelters, drug rehab facilities, and homeless shelters. Many of my students came to me this year not knowing how to count past 5 or even one letter. Students receive little to no educational support in the home, for a variety of reasons. We are literally starting from scratch. For all of their issues however, this is a wonderful group of sweet and loving children eager to learn.
