Our first grade students are like sponges, they love to soak up information. We have taken the past two years to really work more collaboratively to find ways to reach our kids, and reach them in fun ways. Our favorite thing to hear from our kids (and we usually hear it more than once a year) is "This is the best day EVER!"
We strive to hear that from our students as often as we can.
Our school has implemented Robert and Rebecca DuFour's Professional Learning Community (PLC) philosophy. Working collaboratively as a grade level team, getting input from the grade level below and the grade level above, we find the needs of our students through observation, assessment, and our knowledge of what kids need. This helps us to them focus on those skills that each child needs and cater to those needs by grouping them together for that specific skill.
