My students are eager to break the mold that society has placed them in, in order to become successful, contributing members of the global community. Almost all of my students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, and all but one percent are minorities. These students travel from all over Philadelphia to come to our school for a better education than is possible in their neighborhoods. Our school is a community of achievers, believers and doers. As we have changed our enrollment process to include students from turn-around schools, I have witnessed not a turn-around in a building, but in a mindset that had been prescribed in their minds. I feel confident that when these students enter our building, my classroom specifically, that they truly believe they can grow, that they deserve a chance, and that they will indeed win in the battle against poverty and depravity to become strong, intelligent, and compassionate members of society.

About my class
