These specific materials will help all of my 500+ elementary students create a collaborative art project to enhance their community in Jacksonville. Due to the impacts of COVID 19 on families, friends, and their community, it can feel unsafe to visit or experience art exhibitions. My proposal incorporates teaching printmaking and self-portraiture to my students and allow them to create a collaborative project that will be displayed on the exterior of the school building that will help welcome students and families into the facilities but also enhances and beautifies the neighborhood and showcases the diverse cultures represented in the school neighborhood. With the purchased materials of the pin presses, the litebox, and the scratch boards, each student will learn the process of block printing and monotypes to create a self-portrait. Through the self-portrait lesson, students will not just learn about the proper placement of facial features, but will learn how self expression and cultural identity work together to create expressive, personal artworks.
