My students are teenagers who enjoy texts from a variety of genres. When I asked them what they like to read, they said: Harry Potter Books, autobiographies and mysteries. They are an eclectic group. My students have inquisitive, creative minds and are always looking to the future with goals and dreams in mind.
As an inner-city school, we are lucky to have a multicultural population of students. We are a school preparing our students for college and career readiness while engaging our students in interests like community service, STEM projects, and more. As we prepare them for the future, I want to make sure they are able to read for academic needs, but I want to make sure they have a love of learning and reading when they graduate from our school.
