Every morning, twenty-five 2nd graders bound into my room with tremendous enthusiasm for learning, high energy when working together and true empathy for one another.
Although over 70% receive "free and reduced" breakfast and lunch, that does not stand in the way of their hard work when focusing on calendar activities, participating in large group lessons that support our daily instruction in reading or diving into the latest math game to help them learn their basic facts. Many of my students have unique challenges such as autism and learning disabilities.
Every day, we begin our morning with a promise to be in charge of our learning and our behavior so that our great days begins "right here and right now."
