The physical classroom environment is an important consideration when setting the stage for a productive year. Students need walk in and feel valued. Broken, dated, or damaged furniture creates the opposite effect. Students sitting in cracked chairs or at wobbly desks can be a distraction in the already crowded emotional space of a middle school classroom.
We have fresh paint; we have great books; we have learning materials; we have an excited and prepared teacher; we just need furniture that shows the kids that we value their experience! The School District of Philadelphia has shown a lot of love to the younger children. They've received carpets and furniture. Our middle schoolers are still waiting...
Please show my cool kids that their experience matters, too...that their classroom can be just as vibrant and welcoming as their younger and suburban peers! They are the future leaders of the world and deserve the best!
