In my classroom, I would like to implement an interactive literacy activity called "Lights Out Fridays." This activity would help foster a passion for reading by giving my students an alternative and engaging way to practice reading. "Lights Out Friday's" will be an opportunity for students to read a book of his/her choice, find a comfy spot in the room and cozy up with a flashlight, lantern or finger light. We will turn our classroom lights off, close the window blinds, turn on the diffuser, and relax with a good book. I love the following quote by Dr. Seuss, "The more that you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!" Reading is so important in the early years. Establishing a love for reading will allow my students to continue to love reading and soar with their reading ability.
