Our club meets twice a month for approximately one hour. During this time period we begin with a breathing activity then proceed to processing feelings in relationship to mindfulness, exploring aspects of gratitude and then practicing a new breathing exercise or engage in some beginning yoga movements. Transference of activities from group to daily activities is part of our closure with staff informal check-ins with students throughout regular scheduled days. The supplies we have requested will assist us expanding upon our existing routine with incorporating additional exercises in the form of games, calming tools, and gratitude journals. It is the hope that the journals and coloring books could also be used at home (plus the skills they are learning!) so as to offer students additional opportunities to learn mindfulness at different levels in order to increase meaningfulness and potential for longitudinal impact. Moreover, additional resources will help further shape our club room as a place of refuge when students need support in regrouping/processing moments.
With full funding, students will be able to embrace components of mindfulness at their comfort level and pace. Exposure to various methodologies and tools to cultivate their passion in mindfulness while growing as individuals in more mindful and present mannerisms is the ultimate goal of this club and project.
