My classroom is filled with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them come from households where reading is not always encouraged, or parents may not be able to provide reading materials for them. For this reason, we read a variety of texts in the classroom. My students prove that they love reading and learning new material on a daily basis. They have expressed that they enjoy reading material that is related to real-world experiences. Our school is a public school in which 71% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We believe that all of our students regardless of socioeconomic backgrounds have the ability to succeed and we feel reading is a wonderful way to reach that success.
