Our elementary school is a Title 1 school located in Puget Sound area of Washington. Our building is at 100% participation for the free/reduced lunch program. Due to continuing budget cuts, our library allowance gets smaller every year. Currently we only have enough to purchase the yearly Battle of the Books/Washington Children's Choice Picture books. That budget does not allow the purchase of any other new books. Our population is very transient. Students move without returning books-continuing to deplete the books that we do have to offer to students. Students lose or damage books and cannot afford to replace them. The current library collection is aging and not able to represent current needs and interests of our students. Our students are great readers and are constantly asking for new titles.
