My school is situated in a small city. Our population is made up of immigrant, refugee as well as 'home grown' kids! Our free and reduced lunch numbers are very high. I enjoy working here in spite of the language challenges, because our students are the best!
My kindergarten students, like the rest of our school population, come from different parts of the world. Most of them come from low income homes and do not speak English. Many of them have never seen a scissor or a pencil, let alone used them before coming to school. But they are eager and willing to learn. I tell them daily that they are the smartest and best kindergarten students in the whole wide world!
