25 children who are full of personality and energy occupy my classroom on a daily basis. We spend time on practical activities for children aged 5-6 such as working on the alphabet and recognition of basic words. Small motor skills and social skills are always a work in process. Centers are a core component of the learning that we have developed in our classroom. This time is meant to focus in on various activities to help stimulate the child’s the curiosity, ease the transition from home to school, and to have fun learning! Centers also foster independence and allows me to work with small groups for reading or writing activities. We are a Title I high needs school. The community is made up of low-income housing and the families who are always struggling. Students live in a high poverty neighborhoods and the resources for technology in local libraries have disappeared.
