I teach general music to all of the students at Phineas Davis K-8 school in the School District of the City of York. My students have music class for one hour a day, twice a cycle (we are on a 6 day cycle). We feel very fortunate that we have this much time available for learning and music making, but we are limited in other ways. We have a small amount of hand drums, tambourines, and rhythm sticks but there are no melodic classroom instruments available.
Without a doubt, my students need to play classroom instruments to help them learn musical concepts, expand their creativity, and to use as a tool for self expression. They deserve this, and much more.
