My students are endearing, strong, loving, capable and down right funny. They are individuals which have created a community for themselves in a school where they have felt like the black sheep for too long. They work hard at sharing (toys and emotions), lending a helping hand and staying safe at school when they naturally would like to hit.
At Highland Park Elementary, as a school we are problem solvers and I can say in the very short amount of time I have been with my group I have seen tremendous growth in this area. They can compromise, they can talk it out, or if need be they can walk away come back when calm.
I can't say enough positive things about this young group, they teach me every day how to be a better teacher and mentor.
Even in their roughest moments, they care about what others are thinking about them and will reflect about how their choices affected others.
My community of learners is becoming ready for the next level of independence and I couldn't be more proud!
