I teach first grade in a Title 1 primary school, just outside of Washington, DC. Most of my students are English language learners, and receive free or reduced-price lunch due to the economic hardships their parents face on a daily basis. My students love to learn, despite the struggles they may experience from sources outside of school. They work very hard to do their best and often ask for extra classwork and homework so that they can "make their brains stronger". Anyone who visits our school can testify by observing the smiles on the students' faces that they love where they are learning.
