First grade is a critical year for reading. My students need bins to hold their independent reading books. Books are the most precious treasure our classroom, and my students are enthusiastic about "shopping" for their books each week. They have been using cardboard boxes that fall apart continuously. My students take pride in caring for our classroom books, and our book boxes do not reflect the way we feel about reading. Having plastic bins would help my students stay organized, and contain their books in a way that demonstrates the value we place on reading in first grade! Plastic reading bins would be a visible reflection of the pride my students feel in their reading.
