My school houses around 900 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The school has been identified as a Title I school and has a free and reduced lunch rate over 90%. Many of the students are classified as English Language Learners. The students are learning English as their second language and a majority of students also speak Spanish. The students come to physical education class eager to learn and participate in a safe, fun, and engaging class lesson. Although at times there are language barriers I am able to implement successful and effective teaching strategies to include all students in each component of the lesson. I use picture cards to support students with vocabulary, use student-to-student interaction which allows students to practice new vocabulary and monitor the students to ensure they are using the vocabulary correctly. By having a consistent and engaging curriculum new students are able to quickly comprehend and become fully involved in the class.
