We are requesting pencils and a subscription to Scholastic Action for current high interest fiction and nonfiction selections. Reading current material of high interest to middle schoolers helps them learn about interests that other children their age have. I decided on magazines a little below grade level because many of my student have very limited English. We will read the magazines as a group activity and work towards them being able to read them independently. This in turn will help them improve on all of their classes.
My students want to feel like they belong. Reading Scholastic magazines helps them feel that way. The magazines give them the insight of the happenings in the United States and helps them understand how diverse our country is.
