In the past year I have seen the power of whole class novel studies. It has made a huge difference in my students and their engagement in terms of reading. I will use The Honest Truth to teach grade level standards and increase engagement in reading. As we read the books as a class I will be have students practice the skills that need to be mastered by the end of their 5th grade school year. These skills include summarizing, making inferences, comparing and contrasting the two main characters, quoting accurately from a text, and many other skills. I hope to increase students love for reading with this story set in their hometown.
