Currently, my third-grade students take turns using our two classroom issued laptops and are always thrilled when it is their day to engage in developing individual reading and math skills while using the technology. I recognize the importance of exposing children to meaningful technology at an early age and the substantial benefits of engaging students in technology-integrated literacy and math activities.
I am requesting 3 class iPads and cases for my students so that these differentiated literacy experiences can become more frequent and all students can participate. 80% of my students are English Language Learners or Special Education students, so our classroom needs vary greatly. With iPads, my students will be able to use rigorously researched apps that enhance phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension along with math fluency-all of which are essential in order to become a proficient reader and mathematicians.
