I work with students 1-6 grades that have the diagnosis of Autism or students that have sensory needs. I work 1:1, small groups, in the classroom, recess and during their lunch. Every year we have an annual meeting to set goals for each student to work on until our next meeting. Most of the goals deal with social activities. Students on the spectrum have little or no friends. I go into the classroom, work with each teacher my student may have and we come up with the best way to make him/her successful in and out of the classroom. It may be visuals, modeling, social mapping for unexpected behaviors, positive reward systems, and what ever else is needed to get these students through the day or even through a non-preferred activity. My school welcomes my services everyday in their classroom. We work as a team to assist and support our students and their families to help with academics, unstructured activities, and also homework strategies.
