My scholars are a very unique and diverse group of learners with multiple learning styles and a wide range of academic achievement levels. They are often labeled underachievers and low performers in many instances due to a variety of reasons that sometimes pose challenges for highly qualified educators and staff to address.
My scholars are highly energized, impressionable, and culturally knowledgeable learners. With very little societal emphasis being placed on the relevance of education and how their futures are impacted, school can often be described as just another place to be with no real ties that bind. Providing relatable, relevant, and rigorous curriculum can be the catalyst for change.
My school can be described as an inner city- low performing- priority school with a majority population of African American students residing in homes with a low socioeconomic status. Very minimum parental involvement at best to assist with providing both academic and discipline support.
