Hi, there! My name is Matt Strand, and I am passionate about engaging students with real-world problems. Our school is project-based, which means that even though I teach English, I have a great deal of latitude in the projects I develop. The project I am most passionate about is a recent one: coral restoration. I discovered this work when volunteering with the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo with my wife. After learning about the incredible decline of reef-building corals and using my diving skills to help the environment, I asked myself, "How can I make this experience a reality for kids?" Helping my students earn their scuba certification, learn about coral decline and restoration, and dive off the Florida coast to plant healthy coral on endangered reefs is the most powerful and rewarding work I have ever done with my students. I hope you will help us make our second voyage a reality!
