Approximately half of the classroom of students receive specialized services in the area of reading. These students are in need of differentiated materials in order to make their learning more successful.
Parents frequently are unsure or ask the school to provide examples of appropriate reading levels for their student. In funding this project, the students would be able to be provided with weekly take home books that can be supplemented with comprehension and phonics activities for home to school engagement. Through the funding of this project differentiated materials will be extended outside of the classroom environment and will be provided to the parents in hopes of improving their overall academic achievement.
Mrs. Livingston inspired me through her project. She was inspiring because she showed a way to improve the home to school connection for students. This brought to light the fact that our struggling readers do not have the materials in some cases that would allow for this sharing between home and school. Through this project, Mrs. Livingston's idea would come to life for our struggling learners.
