My students are in an inner-city, the city with the highest poverty in the state. They want to learn and want a safe place to do so. The majority of the kids are on free or reduced lunch and many don't have a place to call home. School is their sanctuary to have a caring adult and a safe environment to be with their friends. Neighborhood schools don't receive as much funding as our magnets do but my students have the same needs.
