The overall goal for this project is to increase student engagement, interaction with content and, ultimately, achievement! My desire is to increase the volume in m,y classroom by using a QBall and an African djembe drum. After witnessing classes utilize these two items and the level of learning that was occurring because of them, I knew that I had to have them both for my class. I definitely had a "Why didn't I think of that?" moment!
The QBall is a ball with a built in microphone that students stand and use when speaking in class. The ball has a wireless connection to speakers that allow students' responses to be heard loud and clear! Students either throw the ball back to the teacher or to the next speaker during class discussions. This motivates students to think, speak well, and give correct and thoughtful responses. Additionally, it is fun! Who wouldn't want to have a microphone ball to throw in class!
The African djembe drum will be used to add rhythm to our classroom discussions. Students will be taught to beat the drum at the ends of spoken sentences to reinforce and highlight was is being stated. It will also be used to provide the beats to the raps and chants that support our academic content. This drum is also beneficial in helping the drummer stay focused as he or she must attend to the speaker in order to know when to chime in.
Thanks in advance for your support!
