Our school does not have up to date math books or workbooks for the students to learn from. Therefore, I make all their materials and give it to them as handouts. For this reason the students need to have a 3-ring binder to put these handouts in to keep organized. Many times I have students who can't do their work because they can't find it or lose it because they have no place to put their materials. I see some of my students keeping their papers in two pocket folders or file folders which things fall out of and get out of order, and I see some students who don't have anything to put their materials in.
One key in being successful in their education is for students to be well organized. I want every student to have a 3-ring binder to basically make a workbook out of with their notes, practice worksheets and homework. If students can easily find their materials it will help them learn for themselves and become more responsible. It will also show them how much easier things are when you are prepared and organized. Sometimes it is the small tools that can make all the difference in a big project.
