In kindergarten we are learning the basics, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics. When starting out with very little in your tool box mastering the skills of sounds/reading can be very difficult. Being as I am only one person in class of 18 and sometimes plus students I don't get as much time as I would wish for to help my students master these skills.
By having tablets in the classroom I can use QR codes to record myself reading stories to the students to listen to in a center. I can have them answer questions ( they can not read directions yet which makes independent work sometimes difficult) It is my vision to also have all of our sight words and CVC words posted with a QR code of the reading of the words. This will have them hearing and interacting with the words much more than without this technology. It will give students more time to hear words/and letter sounds so they will be better able to retain the knowledge.
With the tablets I believe students will have an easier time being independent as well as a better chance at mastering the standards that are taught in kindergarten. If students learn the basics and get a solid foundation I STRONGLY believe that we will have less problems in higher grades and with remediation.
