Students need to move and interact throughout the day. We as adults know what it's like to be sitting at a desk all day-it's boring! We need a break and the ability to move around! Imagine what it is like for kids. By using a variety of seating options such as balance balls, yoga cushions and stools, students can choose a place in the room where they can learn best.
When I give my students the opportunity to move around the room and work, the kids love to spread out! I find them in the most hilarious places. Under tables, hiding in coat racks or even just simply laying on their stomachs on the floor. However, these places don't always provide comfort and a large space to work.
Another reason is that a large part of class time is spent working in groups or partners so I would love to provide them with an area to work cooperatively in different areas of the room. I truly believe that giving my students the flexibility to choose their seating will make a large impact on the success of their learning!
