The special education students need the opportunity to read books on their level that are interesting. We will build in incentives to support students to become life-long readers.
We will work with students individually and in groups to build them up as readers. Depending on their level, students will be able to read books in a group or individually. I or one of my colleagues will discuss the book with them and give them a credit for successfully reading the book, always asking them if they enjoyed it and what kind of book they would like to read next. If they read 5-10 books in a reporting period, they will be invited to a pizza party and games afternoon where they will also be given a book to keep. We will celebrate our students and discuss our own love of reading.
