I am requesting several sets of Boomwhackers for my 6th and 8th grade music students to use. Currently we do not have any pitched instruments for students to learn on. Having these instruments will not only give my students a tool to learn conceptual ideas but give them a creative outlet as well.
I believe my students who struggle with an aural subject will benefit greatly from having the opportunity to make it visual and kinesthetic as well. Many of my students demonstrate a true desire to learn the subject but without this visual assistance are unable to connect the theory and make it applicable. Students should not only have to opportunity to learn the concepts of music but be able to create their own as well. I plan to use the Boomwhackers to teach basic music concepts to students as well encourage them to create their own pieces both as a group and by themselves.
