Our high school recently built a mock apartment to facilitate our students’ acquisition of daily living skills, such as learning to vacuum, fold and put away laundry, make a bed, and prepare food. Our ultimate goal is to help our students achieve the greatest degree of independence prior to graduation.
Getting a stove and dishwasher will provide our students with authentic learning experiences that translate to real life. The students will learn safe food handling and safe operation of the stove and dishwasher. They will plan nutritional meals, and use the stove to prepare them. Also, they will learn important social skills as they work together to clean up after the meals by loading and operating the dishwasher.
