The materials that I am requesting for my students already have a home. In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The bookshelf will be part of my cozy classroom library and will display themed books each month. These books will align with the season or major holidays that occur during any given month. This will give my students more book choices, as I will be able to display more books.
In order for students to grow as readers, not only do they need to read, but having others model good reading is critical, especially in kindergarten when students are developing their early literacy skills. The listening library materials will help facilitate independent literacy centers by allowing students to use the portable CD players and headsets to hear various stories. As the school year continues, I plan to build my listening library to include a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. This will expose my students to a wide range of topics and types of books, and it will further boost their literacy skills by hearing others read fluently.
