When we think of art supplies we don't ever consider using computers to create our art. We think of paints, canvases, and clay, but there are other things that are necessary to maintain an effective art class even while learning Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Craft supplies, as well as markers, sharpies, colored pencils, and cutting utensils are used up quickly in an everyday class environment and need to be replaced often. Students will be exploring in addition to applying the elements of design and gain an art appreciation for art history and the production process through drawing, painting and other medias. They will create original pieces of art based on the ideas and same tools used in Adobe programs.
Now the question is, do traditional and digital arts compete with each other? The answer is simply no. Digital arts, as its name suggests, is also a form of art, which, when used in graphics, can be regarded as an applied art. No one can claim that oil painting competes with watercolor drawing only because they both use brushes. They are different styles of art with different techniques. With projects, students learn that both traditional and digital arts use the same art concepts, such as balance, color, and contrast.
Digital arts is an extension of fine arts. The question that may come to our minds is whether learning traditional arts is required to be able to learn digital arts? At the same time, students must have a basic knowledge of the concepts in fine arts about colors and shapes. Also, basic drawing skills are very important to help students visualize their ideas and digitally paint them. For some students, specific tools are are preferred over others that help them express their feelings, establish creative ideas, and give opportunity to be successful.
