Imagine stepping into a school and not speaking the language of any of your teachers or classmates. For many of my students this is the case. To help new students feel welcome, I immediately try to communicate with my students through on-line translation programs to let them know I am here to help and care for them. Having access to Chromebooks would allow me to communicate with more of my students in our classroom.
It is said that, "a picture is worth a thousand words" and this is so true for English Learners! Pictures, images, and drawings are all quick and easy ways to help provide students with the background knowledge they need to be successful in their content area classes. Technology provides students with access to any picture they may need to better help them understand the language they are trying to learn.
Translating and showing images are useful ways to use technology in the classroom, but in addition; the educational websites that are available will provide an even greater asset to our classroom. As a Title 1 school, we have limited access to resources that would help our students be successful in today's digital-age. A lot of our students do not have access to technology once they leave school each day. Access to Chromebooks would allow them to do research for projects, practice reading and math skills, on the numerous websites available online, as well as gain experience with technology to help them become successful in their future endeavors. These Chromebooks would be a tremendous asset to the students in my classroom and without your help, access to these resources would not be possible. I appreciate any help you can provide for my well deserving students!
