Most of my students come from homes that do not have extra money for art supplies. I believe it is vital for these students to have the opportunity to create unique and individual pieces of art work.
For the students that like to manipulate materials having plenty of 3-D mediums in the art room is important as it allows the students to experiment with sculptural forms of expression. These students may incorporate textiles into their projects by using the yarn, beads or wood pieces.
For the students that feel more comfortable with 2-D mediums having a variety of quality drawing supplies is important in order to expand their experiences with this type of art work.
I bring in a lot of 'found' material and let the students come up with projects to create from the materials, some of my ordered materials will be used in conjunction with some of these projects. One of my previous projects that the students enjoyed was doing a colored pencil drawing on old discarded vinyl record albums.
